INCIDENT STATEMENT
12:00pm, 22 November 2016
The Fire Service is currently attending a chemical leak at Napier Port, where a container carrying flammable chemicals has been found to be leaking. An exclusion zone has been put in place within the port, and the Hazardous Substances Unit is on-site.
The container concerned is holding methyl ethyl ketone. Napier Port and the Fire Service are working to determine the best plan of action.
Napier Port is well-prepared for such events and we are following the stringent protocols in place for managing chemical leaks.
Nobody has been hurt but St John Ambulance is on-site as a precaution.
